How long, how low, which cloud.
Room centre
Add the room’s length and width in metres and multiply by 8 for a good chandelier length in cm. A 5 × 7.5 m room gives 100 cm (8-light); 5 × 10 m gives 120 cm (10-light); 7.5 × 11 m gives about 150 cm (12-light).

Over a dining table
Choose a chandelier about 60 cm shorter than your table, so there is 30 cm or more at each end. Hang the lowest leaves 75–90 cm above the tabletop.

Ceiling height
Where people walk underneath, keep at least 2.1 m (7 ft) below the leaves. That means a ceiling of about 2.6 m for the 8-light, 2.65 m for the 10-light and 2.75 m for the 12-light. On higher ceilings, add about 7.5 cm of drop for every 30 cm of extra height.

Care for your chandelier
- Switch off the power and let the bulbs cool before cleaning.
