Over the dining table
Hang the lowest shell 75–90 cm (30–36″) above the tabletop, centred on its long side. Aim for a chandelier about two-thirds the width of the table. Add 7.5 cm (3″) for every 30 cm of ceiling above 2.4 m.

Let the cascade fill the vertical space: centre it in the open void and keep at least 2.1 m (7 ft) between the lowest shell and the stairs or floor below. Taller ceilings suit more tiers.

Add the room’s length and width in metres and multiply by 8 — that’s a good chandelier width in cm (a 4 × 5 m room suits about 72 cm). Keep 2.1 m (7 ft) clear from the floor to the lowest shell.
